First, what is Medicare?
[Text On Screen Ð Original Medicare]

[Text On Screen Ð Health coverage offered by the federal government]
There are different types, but for now we're going to focus on original Medicare. That's health coverage offered by the federal government.
[Text On Screen Ð YouÕll qualify if youÕre:
- A U.S. Citizen 65+
- Under 65 with a disability or certain illness
- Turning 65]
Now let's talk about who qualifies. U.S. citizens age 65 and older or people who are under 65 with a disability or have certain medical issues. But the most common way to qualify is by turning 65.
[Text On Screen Ð New to Medicare? Time to sign up.
- 3 months before you turn 65
- 65th birthday month
- 3 months after you turn 65]
You can sign up for Medicare three months before your 65th birthday, during your birthday month, and three months after. All right, now let's break down the different parts of Medicare and what they cover.
[Text On Screen Ð The four parts of Medicare: A, B, C, D]
Medicare has four parts, A, B, C, and D. Let's take a look at each one.

Part A is part of original Medicare. It's offered by the federal government. It helps pay for hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, and hospice care.

Part B is also part of original Medicare. It's also offered by the federal government. It helps pay for doctor visits, preventive services, and x-rays and other tests.

Part C is a combination of Parts A and B. It's also known as Medicare Advantage and is offered by private insurance companies. Medicare Advantage often comes with drug coverage and dental and vision care.

And finally, Part D helps with the cost of prescription drugs. That's a lot. Feels like you're swimming in a bowl of alphabet soup, huh? But don't worry. You don't have to go through this journey alone.
