Home delivery pharmacy FAQ
Yes. Your provider can send an electronic prescription (e-prescription) directly to Optum Home Delivery through their e-prescribe system. They can also call in your prescription directly to the pharmacy.
Your medication should arrive within 3 to 5 days after we get and process your prescription. If there are shipping delays, we may be able to arrange a bridge supply if your plan allows. A bridge supply is a limited amount of medication you can pick up at a local retail pharmacy to help you stay on track.
You can enter a credit or debit card when you place your order. We also accept health savings accounts (HSA) and flexible savings accounts (FSA).
If a medication is out of stock when you need it, Optum Home Delivery can work with you and your prescriber. Pharmacists can help you explore switching to a generic version of your current medication or choosing another brand-name prescription drug. If we know when your medication will be back in stock, we’ll let you know.
Call us to ask for your medication delivery to require a signature. If your medication is a controlled substance, a signature is already required. And to keep your medications secure, they’re shipped in durable, unmarked packages.
Each medication is shipped according to the drug maker’s guidelines. Optum Home Delivery packs all temperature-controlled medications in insulated containers with frozen gel packs. In normal shipping conditions, the gel packs last up to 60 hours1. In cases of extreme weather, that time could be shorter.
No. By law, Optum pharmacies can’t accept returns of prescription products for reuse or resale. As a result, Optum Home Delivery does not offer credits or refunds for returned medications or supplies that were dispensed properly. We check every order for quality, accuracy and safety. That’s why we have a 99.998%2 dispensing accuracy rate. We make sure that you get exactly what you ordered. If you think there was an error or you have questions about your order, please call us. While we can’t accept returns, we urge you to dispose of leftover medication safely.
